Jane Leyland's West African Adventures
A West African Memoir
Two years as a VSO in Freetown
Jane Thornton - as she then was - spent two years in West Africa as a volunteer teacher.
In 1966 Jane went to Freetown, Sierra Leone, to teach in a convent secondary school.
Now she has written a book for her grandchildren about her time there and about her travels through Ghana, Togoland, Dahomey and Nigeria during the long school holidays.
It gives an interesting insight into West Africa through the eyes of a perceptive young woman.
As many other people have enjoyed the book, we decided to put it on the internet.
